Last year, I visited a local restaurant and had a memorable experience with poor service. My friends and I had chosen this restaurant based on recommendations, and we were eager to sample their well-known cuisine.

The staff greeted us with indifference upon our arrival. It took a while for someone to notice our presence, and when they did, their demeanor was anything but welcoming. We were led to a table with no menus or explanations of the daily specials. After a long wait, a server arrived to take our orders, but they seemed uninterested and refused to answer our menu questions.

Cue Card Sample Answer Topic 5 – Sample 2

Bối cảnh vấn đề

I’m going to tell you about a time when I received poor service from restaurant employees. This happened a few months ago when some family members from abroad came to visit. We decided to go to a nearby town, and since everyone was getting hungry, we decided to stop for a bite to eat.

  • Động từ sử dụng đều là quá khứ đơn: received, happened, came, decided, was gettiting (quá khứ tiếp diễn)
  • Mở đầu nêu ra bối cảnh của vấn đề, xảy ra tại thời điểm khi nào (a few months ago) và đi cùng với ai (family members)

At first, the restaurant we came across appeared to be ideal. We didn’t book ahead of time, so there were plenty of empty tables, and we were all pleased with the menu. But as soon as we walked in, things began to go wrong, and we were unimpressed with the attitude of the staff.

After a few minutes of waiting for someone to greet us, I managed to catch the attention of a waitress, who informed me that we had entered the restaurant through the wrong door. So I went over to the main door, only to be told by the manager that there were no tables available for our party of eight. I noticed several free tables with four seats, so I suggested combining two of these tables. However, the manager insisted that this was not possible; our only option was to divide the family and sit at two separate tables.

Some of my family members had had enough by this point. Even though the restaurant was half empty, we were treated as if they didn’t need us.
